OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Regional Radionuclide Workshop are:
- To further build up the national and regional capacities in implementing the Treaty and participating in the verification regime, in particular to promote the importance of Radionuclide technology;
- To promote the exchange of experience and expertise in Radionuclide technology among the NDCs in SEAPFE region;
- To strengthen participants’ knowledge of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and the work of the Preparatory Commission.
The objectives of the Radionuclide Integrated Training are:
- To understand and learn how Radionuclide data can help in the verification regime and civil and scientific application;
- To learn how to use the Radionuclide tools in the NDC in a Box (NiaB) package with processing the data;
- To stimulate regional cooperation in Radionuclide data analysis through the NDCs.

Regional NDC workshop
- Presentations of the latest developments regarding capacity building and training in the IDC;
- Radionuclide monitoring technology at the IMS and IDC;
- Civil and scientific applications of IMS data and IDC products with emphasis on special interest to NDCs in SEAPFE;
- Field trip and technical visit.
Integrated training
Presentations and discussions on:
- Introduction on CTBTO verification regime and overview on the Radionuclide monitoring technology;
- IDC technical supports to NDCs;
- Methods to access IMS Radionuclide data and IDC products;
- IMS data processing and storage through the IDC radionuclide analysis pipeline;
- Practical sessions on access to IMS Radionuclide data and IDC products;
- Initiation to standard software in the NDC-in-a-Box package for processing and analysis of Radionuclide data (particulates and noble gas);
- Initiation to data analysis in NDC-in-a-Box including comparison with analysis results in IDC products.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
The workshop aims to have a broad regional representation from SEAPFE NDCs.
Applicants should be involved in the use of IMS Data and IDC Products, in particular NDC researchers and analysts, other persons involved in radionuclide technology and related fields.
For example:
- NDC technical staff/ authorized users (Principal User or Regular User);
- Experience in radionuclide data analysis and/or similar experience related to nuclear test ban verification;
- Experts from NDCs and research establishments involved in testing, applying, and developing radionuclide, or ATM.
Although some computer resources are going to be provided during the workshop, it is highly recommended that participants bring a laptop to the workshop & integrated training, of recent model and satisfactory specifications in hard disk (at least 100GB of free space) and memory (at least 4GB of RAM), to allow the use of the NiaB Virtual Machine.
This will enable participants to use the software of the Commission and continue processing and analyzing RN data after the workshop & integrated training
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applicants are invited to submit their applications for this Workshop and Training through established official channels (their Permanent Missions to the CTBTO or Ministries of Foreign Affairs)
by the registration deadline of 9 February 2025.
Applicants are requested to use the provided registration form for said workshop:
Applications will be reviewed and applicants subsequently notified by the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS).
However, pending the official nomination, participants may email the registration form upon its approval by an
institution Director to allow the PTS to make timely travel and accommodation arrangements.
FINANCIAL INFORMATION
Applicable to PTS-funded participants only
In accordance with its Staff Regulations and Rules and Administrative Directives, the PTS will provide the following to funded participants:
- A round-trip ticket to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the most direct and economic route;
- Funded participants are not allowed to purchase their own tickets unless, under exceptional circumstances, authorized to do so and only if this proves to be the most cost effective option for the PTS;
- The PTS will book a hotel and cover the costs for the accommodation. Training participants will receive the relevant portion of the Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) via bank transfer upon arrival to the first day of the training; and
- Health insurance will be provided for the duration of the training, including travel days.
Requirement: Scanned passport copies.
OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION
Visas
Participants should apply for visas, if needed and as soon as possible, at the corresponding embassy/Consular office upon receipt of an acceptance Note Verbale from the Provisional Technical Secretariat, in order to ensure timely processing.
