OBJECTIVES
To provide Station Operators with the basic knowledge and technical understanding of the operations, maintenance and management of an IMS Auxiliary Seismic Station with Nanometric, Guralp and a Standard Station Interface (SSI)


AGENDA
The training shall cover the following topics:

  1. Operation, maintenance and sustainment of the IMS seismic auxiliary station network
    (a) Nanometrics, Guralp and SSI equipment
  2. Station operator support
    (a) Troubleshooting
    (b) Communication with PTS
  3. Practice
    (a) Practical exercises
    - Hands-on training on pairing digitizer software with sensors
    - Troubleshooting – with station specific scenarios
    - Restoring station to normal operational conditions
    - Reporting


PARTICIPANT PROFILE
Station Operators involved in the daily operation and maintenance of the IMS Auxiliary Seismic Stations (non-parent network station) are invited to submit their applications through the official channels.  

Applications from other stations using Nanometric, Kinemetrics, Guralp, and Standard Station Interface (SSI) equipment may be considered on a space available basis.   

In an effort to ensure that relevant technical training is provided to the appropriate person, please nominate individuals that are directly related to your IMS facility. 
 

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Nominations together with the registration forms should be submitted only through established official channels (their Permanent Missions to the Preparatory Commission for the CTBTO or Ministries of Foreign Affairs) to the PTS point of contact above, no later than 25 July 2024.

Applicants are requested to the following registration forms to apply: 

 

Applications will be reviewed and applicants notified subsequently.   

However, pending the official nomination, participants may email the registration form to [email protected] upon its approval by a Director of the institution, to allow timely travel and accommodation arrangements by the PTS.


FINANCIAL INFORMATION 
In accordance with the Staff regulations and rules and Administrative Directives, the PTS will provide the following: 

  • A Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) is sufficient to cover related expenses during the training programme;
  • The PTS travel agent will reserve, issue and send the flight tickets to the participants for the most direct and economic route;
  • Funded participants are not allowed to purchase their own tickets unless, under exceptional circumstances, be authorized to do so and only if this proves to be most cost efficient for the PTS;
  • The PTS will book a hotel reservation and cover the costs for the accommodation and training participants will receive their remaining DSA upon arrival in Vienna, and 
  • Health insurance will be provided for the duration of the training.


OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION

Visas
Participants should apply for visas, if needed and as soon as possible, at the corresponding Embassy/Consular Office upon receipt of an Acceptance Note Verbale from the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS), in order to ensure timely processing.
